I waited for over 2 years for permissions with the expectation of paying considerable royalties in a new Gospel Harmony and was eventually informed that this was not the direction biblica intended to move - whatever that meant - seemed just a standard line. I am still awaiting over a year later for an answer to my response which asked if there was any way I could bridge the problems they had in my use of their Version.
Sorry, my wife Kathi died and this site is moribund. Agents aren't only looking for proven track records, but it sure helps. You can reach me via my column, the Author Enabler, in BookPage. www.bookpage.com

I have been thinking about a novel built around Oberlin College. I came across this idea while writing a novel about my ancestors who were active in the Underground Railroad. Oberlin College was the Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad. Hundreds of thousands of slaves, called "passengers" were transported from southern states to Oberlin College and on to Canada and other safe places. Can you imagine the thrilling novel this could create telling the stories of the slaves and those who helped them? I would be delighted to share this concept with anyone who might have interest in co-authoring. :)

Agents and publishers are not perfect judges. Many books that are rejected become hits later, and many of the experienced "experts" back books that become flops. The buck-a-book tables are loaded with books bearing famous labels.

Today a writer can self-publish ebooks or use print-on-demand, and let the readers judge the worth of the work (but the writer has to do a lot of work to reach the readers).

Quoting a author from a social site "literary agents will not consider representing a author`s story without the story selling 5,000 books prior." Is that what literary agents look for before representing a client, 5,000 books sold?

Hi, Folks! I was googling myself to see if a photo that was taken of me selling anti-war buttons in Times Square at the demo on Saturday had made it into the Daily News (nope!) and I came across the delightful reference to me on your site. Not quite accurate--I didn't go on to do other cities, although I did go on to do a second edition of my first book, "Where to Go: A Guide to Manhattan's Toilets." But thanks for the mention!
Peace,
Vicki
